Deivathin Kural Series - 13

DEIVATHIN KURAL 13 OF 23 JUNE 2006
1. In the Krta Yuga, Brugu went to his Father, Varuna and asked him this question. " Dear Father, please tell me as to what is forever complete. It should be such that it should be having no deficiency, neither in Space nor in Time. That is, it should be full everywhere and at all times." His Father told him to go and meditate on it and that he will get to know the answer himself. The Son agreed and carried out his Father’s direction.
2. After a period of ‘Tapasya’, he first came to this Idea. ‘ This human body is the most important. It gets to know all things. The one which knows is superior to the known.’ So he went to his Father and told him, that this body is the highest complete thing. His Father told him to meditate more. Like this some period of meditation was repeatedly followed by getting the doubts being clarified by the Father followed by some more periods of Tapasya or Meditation, again.
3. The first idea, was followed by thoughts, that after all, this body grows by food. But it is subject to growth, diseases, hunger, old age and death. So what is superior to this? Then he thought of, ‘Prana’, or breath. From the time we are born we breath. When it stops, it is death. However more than this breath, is ‘Vignana’. After all the breathing system is only one of the many systems, such as, Digestive System, Nervous Syatem, Blood Circulation System, Reproductive System and so on. But when you come to think of it, more than these systems, the Awareness behind all this is much greater. But then every time, when he thought, he has come to know, he had felt a sense of Happiness. Then it dawned on him that, it is Happiness. We are born of Happiness. We live in it. We live for it. We grow in Happiness.
4. This time when he went to his Father and told him that he had an increasing sense of Happiness, being felt by him in flashes. The Father confirmed this. He told him, " Yes what you are experiencing in bits and pieces, can be permanent and total. This Happiness or ‘Ananda’, is much above and higher than food, body, breath, systems, mind and knowledge.
Beyond all this is your self (or being or Atma). When you cognize it, you know it and you
will also know it to be Happiness or Bliss. That Bliss is unalloyed, pure, without sadness. It
is not, ‘not-being-sad’.
5. We also experience this in flashes. The Sun is shining all the time. We are hidden by our own earth’s shadow in the night. In the day also, let us say that we are sitting under a tree.
Let us presume that the tree is very green. Where we are sitting is fully covered by shadow.
When there is a breeze, the leaves move slightly, the sun’s rays get through. Then again
there is shadow. Similarly, we get Happiness in intervals, far apart. Our bad Karma, our Buddhi or Mind, prevent us from realizing that it is available in plenty. We tend to think that the Happiness is due to, food, wealth, sex and so on. When we get flashes of it, we tell ourselves that we are very happy. By meditating on this we can come to cognize that,
‘Being Happy is Real and to be unhappy is a stupid choice’.
