Deivathin Kural Series - 12
DEIVATHIN KURAL 12 OF 22 JUNE 2006
Om Namah Sivaya.
1. In this Solar system there is only one Sun. If you take some water and sprinkle it on a clean surface, so many droplets of water will be formed. The Sun will be reflected in each droplet. Though each of them may look like a Sun, there is only one Sun. Though they look devided in to many, the Sun is only one. Similerly, in all the millions, zillions of life forms, the spark of life is the same One Life. It is the reflection of One Brhmam only. Adi Sankara says this in the Bhashyam ( or commentary), he has written on, 'Brhma Sutra'. The One Power/Knowledge, which is the foundation of everything else, that limitless capability, is seen to be exhibited as limited in each one of us. That is, 'tat' is 'twam'. What is that ( the Sanskrit word for that is 'tat'), is You ( the Sanskrit word for You is, ' twam'). So that is you. So, That is You or 'Tatwam'. Hence, one of thee great-statements or 'maha-vakyas', of th Vedas is, " TAT TWAM ASI ", (as told by a Guru to his Sishya is "You are That". When I am saying this, this moment, it is all understood by all of us ! No problems ! But we do not remain in this state. In a few moments, we forget this. We suffer by the untruth. How many false or unreals by which we suffer. The satisfaction or happiness derived out of untruth is also false. That happiness diappears in no time. To be happy always, we have to catch hold the Real. God is the only reality. We human beings should catch hold of Him as only Real Being. We are seperate as so many parts. When all these parts, become one with the Indivisible totality, we also lose our seperateness and become one with the One, which is ever bliss.
2. The undevided, indivisible, is the only Being / Existance. The partite is unreal. Only a thought. The thought and dream are not permanent truths. To start with, we meditate on the God, ( who is formless, impartite), as with form and with qualities. Later, when with greater control and perfection out of practice, we dwell on the formless/ aspectless, ther can be no conflict, no fear, no sadness. This is the fruit that Adi Sankara has given us from the Tree of Upanishads. Till we reach this stage of maturity, we have to go through the stages of Bud / Bloom / Fledgling / unripe Fruit / to Ripeness. Till then we have to have the, patience with ourselves and with the process of maturing. Or otherwise, you know what happens to the ( immature / unripe ) not fully growns of this world. The Tamil Poet-Saint 'Vallalar', Ramalinga Adigalar, says in a song,'.................not to fall from the tree due to unripeness...........'. Till that level of maturity is reached, all the avenues for maturity should be kept open, such as, Japam Tapam, Pooja, Chanting, Visit to Temples, Visit to Holy Places and so on. Then, " T A T T W A M ", is understood here and now.
Sambhomahadeva.
