Deivathin Kural Series - 179

Om Namah Sivaya.

Deivathin Kural # 179 of 06 Apr 2007.

1. These e-mails, are chapter wise translations of the lectures given by, Sri Chandra Sekharendra Swamigal, of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Every day, after the daily Puja, He used to talk, on various aspects concerning Hinduism. These are published, in Tamil, by Vanady Padippagam, T.Nagar, Chennai, as Deivathin Kural, in seven volumes of a thousand pages each. To-day's talk is titled, 'Bavanitvam', in pages 834 to 836, of Deivathin Kural, Volume 1.

2. There is no need to make a list of all our demands and tell Mother. "Oh Mother! Malayadwaja Pandya King's daughter, Meenakshi! Without my having to list them, You very well know as to, what are my needs. But as long as I do not tell You personally, it is my mind that gets irritated. So my prayers are not unknown to You. But I tell them to You anyhow, so as to get my mind at rest." So says, Neelakanta Deekshidar, in 'Ananda Sagara Sthavam'.

3. Even If we do not make any requests, by being Ambal's devotee, we automatically enjoy the showers of Her 'Anugrahas'. First we get, 'nalla buddhi', that is the right mind. Such a mind generates good thoughts. The correct methods and solutions to problems, easily comes to one's mind, like a flash as and when required. We get enough income for our own sustenance and be useful to others. We do not get irritated easily and rather get a feeling of universal brotherhood. We feel unconditional love and compassion towards all. Now-a-days, we give many lectures starting with the words, "Brothers and Sisters". Till we become devotees of Mother, such oration is only bombast and hypocrisy. Once we have become Her devotees, naturally, we feel oneness not only with other human beings, but with all animals and living beings. As we get to know Her, irritability and hate, vanishes from our minds. We will not be 'fault finders'. Even when we notice a mistake, we will voluntarily suggest ways and means of correction. By becoming Amma's devotees, we get equilateral perception. Mookar says that, Kamakshi's devotees will not look at anybody as enemy or opponent.

4. Mothers 'Anugraha', takes us to the pinnacle of Gnana, where we will know that all are Her children. Going one step higher, we will see them all as Her forms only. Mother, child relationship also goes. 'It is one power that is seen as so many', this Adwaita Gnana becomes clear. This is exactly what Mookar says, in the sloka starting with the words, "Siva Siva pashyanthi samam". He says that, 'in a person who has Kamakshi's Kataksham, forest and city, enemy and friend; all become equal!

5. Even if we start being devoted to Her initially, assuming Her to be our Mother and ourselves to be Her childen; She eventually gets us to understand that, all differentiation is within Maya and the Oneness of Adwaita is beyond Maya. Acharyal makes this point understood through a 'slesha', or deriving different meanings by a change in punctuation or simply 'pun or double entendre'.

6. The devotee starts saying, "Bhavani, I am Your slave". Bhavani is a name for Ambal. Siva is known by eight important names. One of them is 'Bhavan' or being. So She is Bhavani. 'Tvam' means you. The devotee starts saying, 'Bhavani tvam...' The moment the devotee utters these two words, Mother approves it. Here the meaning is, 'I become You'. She says, "OK, granted!". They say that, as you pray and pray, there are three end states. They are 'Sa Lokam, Sameepyam and Sayujyam' meaning respectively, 'being in the same loka', 'be very close to', and 'become that'.
In this case, by the time the devotee says, 'Bhava Ni Tvam', She grants him the 'Sayujyam' of 'Bhavanitvam'! She grants him 'Bhavanihood!'. What more can you ask for?

Sambhomahadeva.
