Deivathin Kural Series - 176

Om Namah Sivaya.

Deivathin Kural # 176 of 30 Mar 2007.

1. These e-mails, are chapter wise translations of the lectures given by, Sri Chandra Sekharendra Swamigal, of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Every day, after the daily Puja, He used to talk, on various aspects concerning Hinduism. These are published, in Tamil, by Vanady Padippagam, T.Nagar, Chennai, as Deivathin Kural, in seven volumes of a thousand pages each. To-day's talk is titled, 'Ambalin Iruppidam' that is, 'Ambal's Home', in pages 817 to 819, of Deivathin Kural, Volume 1.

2. There is no place where Parasakthi is not. But for the devotee's sake She is said to be dwelling in certain areas. Especially in the devotional procedure known as, 'Sri Vidya', She is said to be in the center of the ocean of nectar, known as 'Amruta Sagara' in the island of 'Mani Dweepa', full of gems, inside many forts full of gardens, in a house made of, 'Chintamanis', in the center of which is a beautiful cot whose legs are Brhma, Vishnu, Rudra and Maheswara respectively, with Sadashiva as the bed spread. Parabrhmam as Kameswara is seated there and She is on His left. That place is, 'Sri Puram'. As in Amirtha Sagara. Sripuram, is also said to be on the golden peak of the Meru mountain!

3. There is another place as given in the 'pala sruthi' of Lalitha Sahasranamam, where She is imagined to be seated, in the center of 'Full Moon'. The mantra is, 'Chandra mandala madyaga'. Actually, this seems to be a very suitable place for Her to be, as imagined by the devotee, for successful meditation.

4. On a full moon night, with a clear sky, one can never tire of looking at the moon. Moon lit dinner or concert by moon light can never lose their allure. But in to-days world, when Man has landed on the moon and turns night in to day with flood lights, the intrinsic value of moon light seems faded somewhat. Moon light does not irritate the eyes. Especially the light of the full moon is something special. As though to make it really so, nature has made it available only once in a month. If it was a daily affair, it may not have this amount of attraction. While sitting down for meditation, first you have to think of this effulgent ambience of the moon light and then think of Ambal in it.

5. As you meditate on the moon light itself, mind and heart becomes pleasantly cool. It becomes calm, without any chance for aberrant thoughts of anger and hate. The entire universe outside is inside the individual too. They say that whatever is in the 'andam' is also in the 'pindam'. (Andam is the egg or universe, and pindam is the unit or part. The whole contains the part and each part contains the whole. This principle is being proved repeatedly by modern science too. We know that the seed contains the tree and the tree contains the seed. Halography and study of DNA also prove this principle.)

6. The mind of Parasakthi who is immanent in all living things, is the Moon light. 'Purusha Suktham' says exactly so. Living being's mind and moon are related. In English, mad people are called lunatics. Lunar is about moon only. It is recommended in our sastras that, for mind related ailments, meditation of Ambal in Chandra Mandala be resorted to.

7. Ambal should be deliberated upon as being seated in Chandra mandala. The person doing the Dhyana, should be seated on 'vyagrasana', that is a tiger skin. As the tiger catches its prey, we should catch hold our 'Dhyana Lakshya'. This can also mean that, our mind which is the distracting force, should be under control, and all our animalistic tendencies should be put down, as we sit down for dhyana. As moon removes the heat of anxiety, the darkness of our minds will slowly be replaced by pleasant illumination of gnana.

8. The Sun is said to be 'gnana swaroopam', but sunlight does cause heat and thirst. When the same light is reflected through the Moon, it becomes softer, cooler and more acceptable to the eye. Ambal is self effulgent like the sun and subdued in brilliance like the moon. She removes all our anxiousness and agitations. She is the Guru, who removes agnana. Kalidasa says, 'desika roopena darsidabyudayam'. We may meditate on Ambal as seated in Chandra Mandala or meditate on the Guru's Padukabyam there; or do Dhyana on Ambal as the Guru.

Sambhomahadeva.
