Deivathin Kural Series - 115

Om Namah Sivaya.
Deivathin Kural # 115 of 11 of Dec 2006.
1. To-day's title is 'Bakthi Seivadu Edarkaga?', that is, 'Why be Devoted to God', occuring in pages 517 to 520, in Volume 1 of Deivathin Kural, Tamil version, published by Vanady Padippagam, Chennai.
2. Every cause has an effect. The Sciences of Physics and Chemistry, are studies of Causes and Effects only. Because of these, the whole world seems to function in an orderly fashion. When the physical world is bounden by inviolable, interconnecting, interdependent, play of these cause and effect theory, human life as part of this physical world, is also subject to this rule. There has to be an effect for every one of our actions. Good actions result in good effects and bad actions have to have bad effects. In a multi dimentional, multi polar world, though this, 'cause and effect' principle may not be directly comprehended and understood, the effect giver, or 'Phala Dhata', is variously known as God, Swami, Kadavul, Bhagawan, Paramatma.
3. Human mind has the tendency to keep thinking of all sorts of things. The ever oscillating mind, thinks of good happenings of the past and arrives at expectations for the future. Thinks of past bad experiences and fears the future. Through the thought processes, with some good effects, it is also creating bad effects too. Just by thinking, we are committing 'Papam' and 'Punyam' and incurring merits and demerits as effects. So we are facing some good and bad effects. Mostly our prayer to God is to offset the bad effects of our own sinful behaviour. Many think that this is Bakthi. God willing, He can offset all our bad 'Karma Vinai' meaning bad effects of our own sinful behaviour. But we cannot demand this. So our prayer to God should be to, 'give us the mind to bear with our difficulties.' Even this prayer to God, is not real Bakthi!
4. When we tell God, our problems, it means that we have less faith in His all knowing power of Omniscience! When we pray to God, ' to change this or that, or give us the strength to bear with our difficulties', does'nt it mean that He is amenable to suggestions or influenceable. There by, are we not undermining His Grace? So this is also not Bakthi! All that such prayer does is, to reduce the load in our own hearts. We get some relief. At least, it brings some humbleness and humility in us, that we are at least praying to God. Despite our errant prayer, He may grant our wish! But can there be an end to this? In this worldly life, problems will keep coming and we will keep praying to God, endlessly requesting Him to relieve us from problem after problem.
5. Instead, to surrender to God saying, " Oh God! Do as you please. Thy will be done ", is Bakthi. When we have no prayer to make, our devotion matures into Bakthi. When we do not ask for anything, all the dirt in our mind goes and it becomes clean. Then your happiness can be complete. ' I have no seperate will of my own ', with that sort of an attitude, when some one surrenders; whether it be a spouse to a life partner, or a student / sishya to a Guru; even if the person surrendered to does not deserve it; the result is Moktcha or Nirvana. Though we have read in some Puranas, about such such surrender to an unworthy Guru or Husband, giving saint-hood to the person who has surrendered; this is not easily done. It is human nature to assess and grade every body else. If that Guru or Life-partner has some noticeable short comings, it is next to impossible to surrender to such a person. If you are lucky enough to get a really worthy Guru to surrender to; of course then, you do not need even God anymore!
6. So it all comes back to the point that, total surrender can comparatively easily be done to the one power, who owns all the worlds including ourselves! To Him only we will be able to say, " It is all Yours. What is mine? tera hai tujko arpan kya lage mera? "
7. There is one more reason to be devoted to God. Listen to this three pointed logic. First. There is no happiness in a life without Love! Second. The happiness in Love is not seen in anything else! Third. Whom-so-ever we love in this world; a day comes when we have to contend with seperation! What was the reason for happiness, becomes a source of pain and hurt! But to Love God means, no seperation. To Love God, can only mean ever increasing happiness. When this Love matures, everything and everybody, is seen as God! No more hate. No more ups and downs. Love becomes universal. Bakthi / Devotion to God, saves us from a Love-less useless life!
8. Now let me list the gains of Bakthi:- 1) Through it we can successively get rid of our worldly problems. 2) We can develop the mentality to raise above our problems. 3) We can get our minds cleansed of dust and dirt. 4) We can get control over our ever oscillating mind. 5) We can also imbibe the divine qualities of God, that we are all the time thinking of. 6) Since He is the 'Karma Pala Dhata', He can relieve us of the unending cycle of, death-birth-death-birth adinfinitum adnauseam, by giving us the 'adwaita anubhava'. There are so many reasons to be devoted to God!
9. There is a Bakthi without reason too. That is, 'Karanamillada Bakthi', the title for the next message!
Sambhomahadeva.
